Week 10 - The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People

Hey!

Week 10 here we go!

Growing up, every Sunday we used to have family "Fun Dinner" where everyone in the family picked a numbered scrap of paper from a hat. Whomever picked the number "one" got first pick from a second hat - number two picked second and so on - that had all the meal items  written on scraps. We used this process to determine the order in which we would eat the meal. This meant there was a very real chance of eating dessert as the first course on any given Sunday (except when the hat holder, as I came found out years later, would rig the system and secretly hold the "dessert" scrap in their hand to be released after the "entree" scrap was drawn; is there no justice?).

In honor of that tradition, I'm putting the links before the book analysis this week.

One of the downloads I got from this week's book was "Read as if you were going to teach what you learned to someone else within 48 hours", and I'm adapting the book analysis to reflect that: there is a new heading at the end of the analysis section called TEACHING WHAT I LEARNED where I will attempt to capture and share as much of the book's wisdom in as concise a manner as I can through my own filter.

If you want to check out just one section of the analysis to really get the juice from the book, that's the spot.

Blessings,

-T

Links

Music - The Finishing by Stavroz - If you like saxophone, check this out.

Music - Gajumaru by Yaima - Relaxing high vibe song.

Video (~26.5 min) - Jon Kabat Zinn: The 9 Attitudes - Jon Kabat Zinn, professor emeritus of medicine  at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and one of the earliest proponents of Mindfulness meditation in the West talks about the 9 attitudes of Mindfulness and how to practice them in our daily lives.

Podcast - The Portal with Eric Weinstein - Eric Weinstein got his PhD in theoretical math at Harvard, and is a managing director at Thiel Capital. His podcast has one of the best ratios of interesting:intellectual that I've come across; he hasn't released new episodes since the end of 2020, but his backlog is full of excellent ideas and interviews. Below are two of my favorite episodes, but all of them are good.

Music Playlist - My Workout Playlist - Do you listen to the same  songs over and over again until you can't stand them? Me too. This is what I listen to every day when I work out.

This Week’s Book

Book Cover

The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey

The Book In One Sentence:  "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is a business and self-help book where Stephen R. Covey presents an approach to being effective in attaining goals by aligning to  "true north" principles based on character ethic that he presents as universal and timeless."

Rating: 10/10 - There is a reason this book has sold more than 40 million copies in 50+ languages. The message is timeless. The wisdom applies regardless of age, gender, religion, and nationality. It applies to individuals, families, companies, institutions, and group of any kind and of any size. This is another book where I can only take in so much in one pass.
